Everlane Court Sneaker Review – An Amazing Everyday Shoe

Finding the perfect everyday sneaker isn’t exactly a simple undertaking. First, we have to consider the seasons. But in most cases, we can quickly conclude that winter is not exactly ripe for showing off your latest kicks. And while the dad shoe trend of big and bulky sneakers continues unabated, everyday sneakers are different. But before I give you my review of the Everlane Court Sneaker, let’s talk about what makes a great everyday sneaker in the first place.

There are some standard criteria for what makes a great everyday sneaker. First, your low-top shoe has to give your ankle a bit of breathing room, so your pants don’t rest on top of your shoe or billow over. That’s just a fashion faux-pas that no-one should abide by. Next is the mixture of colours and materials. Yes, there is a nearly infinite combination of colour and material placements amidst the everyday sneaker world. But may I suggest that sometimes a touch of minimalism and subtlety is what is called for? Cool down on the embellishments, and consider the class that a muted everyday sneaker can bring to nearly any situation. I suppose that’s the beauty of a sneaker that can easily pair with almost any outfit and, on most occasions, feel just right on your feet whether you’re heading out to a party or heading into the office.

Of course, there are other attributes the everyday sneaker should embody, such as comfort, durability, breathability, and for those of you that are conscious about the environment, sustainability. So have we found that rare specimen of an everyday sneaker in the Everlane Court Sneaker? Read on to find out.

Everlane is a direct-to-consumer manufacturer and retailer of stylish minimalist basics. They started with just a few items but have developed their lineup to include a wide variety of apparel and accessories for men and women, such as t-shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, polos, denim, outwear, underwear, sneakers, backpacks, and more. But of-course, Everlane’s approach to manufacturing their items is what caught most of the buzz. The company has dedicated itself to seeking out the best factories in the world to produce their gear. Each of these factories is monitored by Everlane to ensure factors like fair wages, reasonable hours, and environmental practices are being adhered to.

Everlane is what I would consider the “anti-trend” apparel company. They design and make pieces to remain fashionable and to last for years to come. They also offer something nearly unparalleled in apparel retailing. Everlane presents transparent pricing for every item they sell. You can see the exact breakdown of costs related to each product’s sale, including the cost of materials, labor, transport, duties, and hardware. From there, you can see the rough profit that Everlane makes on every item it sells.

So let’s talk about the Everlane Court Sneaker.

This shoe was inspired by the basketball shoes of NBA players of the ’70s. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and Google what those looked like. They are quite a radical departure from the footwear that today’s NBA stars wear. The Everlane Court sneaker, despite its name, is definitely not designed for working out. It’s a sneaker that’s tailor-made for casual, daily wear with a trendy low-top design.

With a flat base and a leather upper, the Everlane Court Sneakers are not nearly as comfortable as something like my pair of Allbirds Tree Runners, which I reviewed here. But then again, they’re not designed to be. T

The sole is not quite as comfortable as my AllBirds tree runners, which I reviewed here

The sneakers come up pretty low on the ankles, and thus I wouldn’t expect that there is much support there, but I must admit that the leather portions of these shoes were rather smooth and supple. Unlike many other everyday sneakers, the Everlane Court Sneaker took almost no time at all to break-in. I’d say there was no break-in period at all. Which honestly kind of made my day when first putting these on my feet to review. I absolutely loathe buying any pair of sneakers or footwear of any kind, for that matter, and then feel like you’re walking around with cardboard on your feet until the shoe is properly broken in. So that’s a big advantage these sneakers have over their competitors.

The upper of these sneakers are made from a 100% full-grain leather made in “gold-certified” (not entirely sure what that means) tannery from Saigon, called TanTec. Whatever magic the company is weaving into its leather did not go unnoticed. It’s very obviously a high quality-leather. Made in Vietnam, the Everlane Court Sneaker has a sole that is made from a blend of natural and recycled rubber, while the lining is comprised of 100% recycled polyester. To add to their environmentally-friendly cred, Everlane offsets the carbon footprint of every pair of sneakers produced. So yay, environment!

Overall, perhaps what I like the most about these sneakers is that they are super versatile. Sure they have some pretty decent foot support and are quite comfortable, but where they truly shine is their aesthetic design choice. They work for casual or dress-up scenarios as the neutral colorways allow you to pair them quite easily with nearly any outfit. They’re also quite light, which I didn’t expect them to be, and I gave them a shot with a variety of no-show, ankle, and calf socks, as well as no socks at all. I’m happy to report that the soft interior liner caused only some minor abrasion when wearing them with no socks for a full-day.

The Everlane Court sneakers are available in four colorways, including an all-white version, the white/mustard combination pictured in this review, an off-white/fog version, and a white and forest green version. The white leather used in these sneakers is not that obnoxious MEGA-WHITE that almost looks fake. Whatever color white Everlane chose to imbue these sneakers with, it seems just right to my eye. Available in Men’s sizes 7 to 13 with some half sizing available, they are also available in a Women’s version with sizes 5-12 available. According to Everlane’s customers and my judgment, these sneakers run true to size.

There are many more reasons why I love these sneakers, including the fact that they don’t look indecently large or bulky and work rather well with any pair of jeans. The removable insole is a nice touch, and the minimalist aesthetic and no obvious logo marking make for a potent combination of a sleek and stylish aesthetic. Even the leather triangle on the shoe’s inner belly and the upper where the sole meets the leather, providing a contrasting pop of color, gives the shoe a subtle but distinctive look. These Everlane sneakers deliver on the brand’s promise of simplicity with ease.

Let’s get to some of the questions you may still have about the Everlane Court Sneakers.

Are Everlane Sneakers Comfortable?

This pair certainly is. As I mentioned previously, the Everlane Court Sneakers, while perhaps not quite as comfortable as a pair of Allbirds or Atoms sneakers, are one of the more comfortable pair of all-leather-upper sneakers I’ve taken straight out of the box. I’ve not experienced any excessive rubbing or any particular pressure points and spots where you know you’ll eventually wind up getting a blister.

Are Everlane Sneakers Lightweight?

Yes, but don’t expect them to fall into the feather-weight category. I would describe these sneakers as being relatively lightweight, given both their size and their chosen materials.

Are Everlane Sneakers Easy to Clean?

Yes. So far, they have been very easy to clean. With 100% upper leather, most nicks and stains have only required a simple wipe of warm water with a cloth. That said, I’ve also noticed that they seem to be somewhat a bit more stain-resistant than most of the other white sneakers I own.

Are Everlane Sneakers True-to-Size?

Yes. Without a doubt. And don’t just take my word on that. A quick scan-through of the various reviews both on and off the Everlane website quickly establishes that fact as well. So if you know your true shoe size, feel comfortable making that exact choice when purchasing a pair of these.

What Kind of Socks Do you Recommend to go with the Everlane Court Sneaker?

Over time I’ve become an increasingly bigger fan of no-show or ankle socks. Why not try a pair of Bombas no-show socks with these awesome kicks.
