70 Best Minimalist Watches

By September 6, 2018 No Comments

While there is no doubt that the age of the smartwatch is upon us, there is still a longing for simplicity and sophistication that can only come with a modern minimalist watch. And while some men prefer the beauty and styling of chronograph watches, this article is all about their minimalist counterparts. Often espoused by EDC (every-day-carry) enthusiasts, the beauty of minimalist watches is that they can be quickly and easily paired with almost any level of casual or formal business wear. Clean-cut, and free of unnecessary features, complications, and subdials, a minimalistic watch, either for men or women can be the ultimate accessory.

From high-end luxury picks to minimalist watches for under $100, we’ve scoured the top watch brands the world has to offer to bring you what we think are currently the most beautiful and elegant minimalist watches you can buy right now.

1. Fossil Hybrid Smartwatch Q Commuter

Fossil Hybrid Smartwatch Q Commuter Black Stainless steel

Ok we know, it’s no Apple Watch, but if you’re rolling with an Android phone, and are still looking for a round-faced smartwatch with a minimalist feel, this Fossil timepiece might be what you’re looking for. While not quite as minimalist as other watches on this list, the Fossil Q Commuter does a good job of combining minimalistic design principles while still providing a good way to present a variety of smartwatch features. With a full suite of smartwatch features such as activity tracking, music control, sleep tracking, this Fossil is definitely a standout in the Google Wear OS world.

Key Features

 Brand: Fossil
Model: Hybrid Smartwatch Q Commuter Black
 Case size: 42mm

2. Ochs & Junior - Perpetual Calendar

Coming in roughly at around $20,000 USD, the Ochs & Junior Perpetual calendar watch is obviously out of reach for anyone other than the most serious of watch collectors and those lucky enough to call themselves a one percenter. But we didn’t add this stunning minimalist watch to the list because we thought you’d buy it, it lands on our list because of some of the truly stunning details of this handmade watch. Like many watches in this price range, what makes it a truly special timepiece is the experience you can have when purchasing this one-of-a-kind minimalistic watch.

First, there’s the absolutely bonkers level of customization options. You’d think that with a minimalist watch, these would be limited, but Ochs & Junior have gone to a crazy level of detail. First, there’s the case, which can be had in one of three materials, including a Grade 5 titanium. Then choose from over twenty colors of the dial, 26 colors for the markers, 22 colors for the hour hand and minute hand each. Not customized enough? Don’t worry, there are another 10 subtle details you can further customize, and we haven’t even started talking about the strap yet. All of this coming, from an incredibly small (5 employees) watch company in the heart of Switzerland. And if you’re really serious about watches, they’ll even let you pay them for the pleasure of flying out to Switzerland for a two-day workshop, where you’ll literally assemble the watch yourself. Save your pennies kids!

3. Stock S001W

Nothing overly fancy is represented in the Stock S001W, but that’s sort of the whole point with minimalist watches, isn’t it? With a very aesthetically pleasing balance of material and form, the S001W is a mid-sized watch from Australian company Stock. With Swiss Quartz movement, a thin bezel, a handsome face, and brushed stainless steel finish, this watch is for those minimalists who like their markers a tad larger than often seen on watches this elegant.

Key Features

Swiss Quartz movement
3 ATM water resistance
1 Year warranty

Specifications

 Brand: Stock
 Model: S001W
 Case size: 36mm

4. Undone Modern Orange

In the world of modern wrist watches, it’s quite rare to come across a watch this bold. Of course, in this case, the word bold is simply a euphemistic measure of the color of both the dial and strap, which is an incredibly pleasing orange. You won’t find many minimal watch brands daring enough to pull something like this off, and it could be argued that the watch contains too many complications to even be considered a minimalist watch, but details be damned, it deserves to be on this list simply because of its colorful bravado.

Key Features

Mechanical-Quarts Hybrid Flyback movement
 Stainless steel case
Hardened Domed K1 Crystal Glass
3ATM Water Resistance

 Brand: Undone
 Model: Modern Orange

5. Paulin Commuter Numerical B

Paulin Commuter Numerical B

At an attractive price point of only $225, the Commuter Numerical B watch stands out from the usual set of minimalist watches by employing a unique set of bespoke numerals. Unafraid of going in a post-modern direction with its overall design, this watch can easily be paired with almost any outfit, particularly with other neutral tones. With a seconds sub-dial at six and a choice of ten different straps, the Paulin watch pleasantly surprises with a 2-year warranty at this price point.

 Brand: Paulin
 Model: Commuter Numerical B
 Case size: 37mm

6. MVMT Element - Ash Black

MVMT Element 43mm Ash Black Watch

The darling of countless recent business profiles on how to disrupt the watch industry, and even more countless podcast sponsorship spots, MVMT continues to expand its lineup of watches by simply adhering to its core guiding principles of keeping things incredibly simple. While not everyone can appreciate a nearly all black matte watch with a minimalist look, this is easily one of it not the best looking black dial watches we’ve had the pleasure of seeing. Silver color accents to a gun-metal grey in the minute and hour hands as well as the markers create just enough contrast for the watch to be useful at a quick glance, but not distracting from the overall purpose of its otherwise all-black design.

Key Features

Battery powered 2 hand
 Domed hardened mineral crystal glass
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: MVMT

 Case size: 43mm

7. Daniel Wellington Classic Bedford

Daniel Wellington Classic Bedford

Widely sold, and widely beloved, the Daniel Wellington brand of watches has become synonymous with an understated sense of balance and design delivered at a price point most are comfortable paying for. The Classic Bedford minimalistic watch is designed for those who love an ultra-thin case (6mm) and is paired with a tasteful, yet playful NATO strap. One of Daniel Wellington’s brand signatures is that all of its straps are interchangeable which makes an investment in this brand of watches particularly palatable. With a gorgeous, ivory white dial, ultra-thin bezel, it’s really hard to beat the pure and uncomplicated nature of this watch.

8. Bulbul Pebble 06

There are watch brands that are hundreds of years old. And then there’s Bulbul, who, while only in existence since 2013, has already made a huge splash in the world of men’s and women’s minimalist watches, and carved out a special place on this list. The Bulbul Pebble 06 is unique on this list by the simple choice of its case shape. As if though asked to find the perfect marriage between a square and circular case design, this Danish watch brand has found and impeccably pleasing shape. Supposedly inspired by the worn pebbles found along Scandinavian coastlines (though probably true of not just Scandinavian coastlines, but hey, everyone has to write marketing copy right?), the Pebble watch (not to be mistaken with the Kickstarter darling Pebble smartwatch brand of yesteryear, now owned by Fitbit), has been built to not only look beautiful, but also to stand the test of time.

Key Features

Swiss gold plated movement with 4 jewels
 3 ATM water resistance
German made steel band
Sapphire crystal glass

Specifications

 Brand: Bulbul
 Model: Pebble 06
 Case size: 40mm

9. Nixon Porter Leather 40mm

Nixon Porter Leather 40mm

While not normally known for their minimalist looks, this Nixon watch hits the mark just enough that we like what it does with its subtle use of various color options and lack of complications to fall on this list. With a 3 o’clock crown, the clean and considered lines of this watch are nicely complemented with a simple leather strap.

Key Features

Miyota Japanese quartz
 5 ATM water resistance
Stainless steel case

Specifications

 Brand: Nixon
 Model: Porter Leather, 40mm
 Case size: 40mm

10. Vestal Sophisticate

Vestal Sophisticate

If what you’re looking for is a splash of color within a thoroughly black and elementary dial, the Vestal Sophisticate might be what you’re looking for in a nicely distilled minimalist watch. Falling into the ultra-thin realm of case designs at just 7mm, the Vestal is a bit on the pricey side as far as mid-tier watch brands go, but it exudes such a finely tuned sense of balanced design that it’s well worth the price. Finished with an Italian leather strap that Vestal says is secured with German stitching, this watch can be worn with nearly any outfit that doesn’t scream “look at me!”

Key Features

 Brand: Vestal

11. Movado NGH

Moved NGH

It’s unlikely that you haven’t heard of the Movado brand of watches. They are one of the giants in the timepiece world. And in addition to producing their own line of exquisite simple watches, Movado also produces watches under variously licensed brands including Coach, Hugo Boss, and Lacoste. The Movado NGH is a unique unisex watch and isn’t for the faint of heart, both in styling and pricing. Available in three striking colors, the Movado NGH has the original signature flat dot and stick hands and uses a calfskin strap with a stainless steel classic tongue buckle. Any of these color options can be easily complimented with a neutral outfit and will take your overall look from bland to something to talk about.

12. VOID - The PKG01

VOID - The PKG01

The Void brand is unique in the sense that it doesn’t come from a region of the world that is commonly associated with high-end watch design and craftsmanship. Founded in 2008 in Hong Kong, Void has made a huge splash in the world of minimalistic watches. Their core philosophy of simplicity is reflected in this deceptively understated watch. With a super thin 7mm case, the PKG01 maintains some very fine design elements, such as the red dotted second-hand, thin bezel, and small typeface across the dial. While modestly sized at 38mm, don’t think it only comes in one configuration, the PKG01 comes in several finishes to match your specific needs.

Key Features

Japanese quartz Miyota movement
 5 ATM water resistance
2 year warranty
Mineral crystal glass

Specifications

 Brand: Void
 Model: PKG01
 Case size: 38mm

13. Linjer - The Minimalist Watch

Linjer - The Minimalist Watch

Despite the name being a tad on the nose, (did they decide on the product name with SEO in mind?) this Linjer product is incredibly pleasing to the eye. It’s one of Linjer’s top sellers for good reason. Available in 38mm and 41mm options, the Minimalist Watch has extremely refined detailing, with the 2nd hand tapering into a thin point. Appropriate for dressing up or dressing down, you’ll get a lot of mileage out of this Linjer watch, no matter what type of outfit you’re trying to pair it with.

Key Features

Ronda 5 series quartz movement
Domed sapphire glass
3 ATM water resistance
316L stainless steel with brushed finish case

Specifications

 Brand: Linjer
 Model: The Minimalist Watch
 Case size: 38mm & 41mm

14. Junghans - Meister

Junghans - Meister

For a watch company well over 150 years old, it’d be understandable if the company had strayed from its roots of traditional watchmaking, and it’s stated goal of creating watches that are consciously understated. But if you gander through their entire collection of watches, there isn’t a single piece that doesn’t strictly adhere to their design principles. The Junghans Meister was first built in the 1930’s and has, through the decades, been continuously improved and refined. If you’re wearing business casual, or sporting a more formal look with a suit or blazer, the combination of sunray blue dial and brown leather strap make it a formidable combination. What truly makes this minimalistic watch a subtle masterpiece is an attention to detail in the texturing of the blue dial and elegant placement of markers and logo. Of course, the back of the watch is just as elegant as you’d expect given the caliber and price point of this watch.

Key Features

Stainless steel case
3 ATM water resistance
Horse skin leather strap
Convex hard plexiglass

Specifications

 Brand: Junghans
 Model: Meister Sunray Blue Dial
 Case size: 38mm

15. Grey Hours - Light Hours

Grey Hours - Light Hours watch

Even in the realm of minimalist watches, you really have to do some work to find an almost all white watch that you’d actually want to wear. The Light Hours delivers on the promise that you don’t have to spend yourself into oblivion in order to wear an incredibly handsome watch with almost ultra-minimalist features. With a unique second dial designed to show the day of the week, this absolute beauty comes in a 40mm stainless steel case and uses sapphire glass with anti-reflection technology to create a high level of transparency. Using a similar method to what Apple uses in its Apple Watch, the Light Hours case uses an ion-plated hardened coating to provide a shield against scratches and wear marks. Finally, unlike most watch brands at this affordable price point, Grey Hours provides a lifetime warranty for all of its watches including this one.

Key Features

316L brushed stainless steel
Swiss quartz movement
Unique watch number
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Grey Hours
 Model: Light Hours
 Case size: 40mm

16. Picto - 40mm White/Matt Black

Picto - 40mm Watch

The Danish sure have a penchant for starting watch brands whose mechanical offspring exude a simplicity and cleverness not often found in the minimalist watch world. Founded in 1984, the entire line of products revolves around one simple design, but in an incredibly attractive and varied set of different color combinations and strap options including leather, silicone, mesh band, and denim. What makes it truly genius is how it works. The hour is marked with a dot on the rotating dial, while the minutes are indicated by a conventional hand. The Picto watch is a minimalist’s dream. It easily ranks as one of my favourite watches on this list.

Key Features

Stainless steel case
Hardened mineral glass
5 ATM water resistance
Miyota 2025 movement

Specifications

 Brand: Picto
Model: 40mm White / Matt Black
 Case size: 40mm

17. Arvo - The Matte Grey Awristacrat

Arvo - The Matte Grey Awristacrat Watch

Normally I wouldn’t fall all over myself for a watch whose model name is decidedly overly clever, but during the research phase of writing this article, I simply kept coming back to this watch from Arvo for simple aesthetic reasons. Perhaps my choice feature of this watch is its use of a double date and weekday windows which are symmetrically aligned at 12 and 6. Additionally intriguing to me was the gray felt band as an option to go all-out monochrome with this good-looking watch. At only around $120, this is a must-have for serious minimalist watch collectors.

Key Features

Stainless steel case and back
Japanese quartz movement
Very thin case at only 7mm
Unisex

Specifications

 Brand: Arvo
 Model: The Matte Grey Awristacrat
 Case size: 36mm & 40mm

18. Optik Instruments - 001_Flagship

Optik Instruments - 001_Flagship watch

Out of every watch on this list, this is the one whose inclusion on this list I wrestled with the most. On the one hand, the 001_Flagship is a byproduct of a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly $350,000. And while the campaign was successful, hardware products have an abysmal record of actually delivering the products promised by various campaigns. On the other hand, Optik Instruments lineup of watches was simply too difficult to ignore for their incomparable design. So what makes this watch special? Perhaps falling on the barely just made it side of design as to be considered minimalist, the 001_Flagship features a standout set of yellow and grey rotating dials. A simply iconic look.

Key Features

Stainless steel 316L unibody case with mirror finish
Double domed sapphire crystal glass
100m water resistance
Ambidextrous design

Specifications

 Brand: Optix Instruments
 Model: 001_Flagship
 Case size: 36mm & 40mm

19. Matte Black - French Silver

Matte Black - French Silver

One of the most often cited barriers to entry to owning a great austere watch is the price point. With the French Silver, you can officially consider that barrier to be non-existent. At only $52, this watch provides a simple but classy presence designed to compliment outfits of neutral colors. Note for lovers of oversized watches, at 38mm, this watch is probably not for you.

Key Features

Nylon strap
Japanese quartz movement
Mineral glass
Brushed stainless steel case

Specifications

 Brand: Matte Black
 Model: French Silver
 Case size: 38mm

20. Shore Projects - Barra

Shore Projects - Barra

Resembling the design of intrepid explorer chronographs, the Barra watch, with its subtle cream colored dial is a charming option for those looking to add a minimalist watch with some slightly more bold markers. With a nice mesh band, this watch can compliment slightly more colourful outfits for a night out on the town. You’ll likely turn some heads with anyone that pays attention to watches as the Barra comes in an unusual in-between case size of 39mm.

Key Features

Black plated 316L stainless steel case
Miyota quartz movement
10 ATM water resistance
Scratch resistance sapphire crystal

Specifications

 Brand: Shore Proejcts
 Model: Barra

21. LEHFT Gold / Black

LEHFT - Gold / Black watch

Reading LEHFT’s story reads like a sob-story that the world of minimalist watches has become too crowded with copycat designs that don’t exude any level of originality. While I’m not entirely sure I agree, given the awesome breadth of minimalist watches uncovered in this guide within, there’s something to be said for what LEHFT has tried to do, that is, create a uniquely identifiable timepiece. The Gold / Black unisex timepiece comes with an awesome dual-tone grey dial with a truly gorgeous gold case that stands out in terms of the resembling a true gold tone. And finally, the 4 o’clock position of the battery saving pull out stem adds yet another rare element to the overall design.

Key Features

Swiss-made Ronda 763 movement
316L stainless steel brushed PVD gold case
Scratch resistant sapphire crystal case
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Shore Proejcts
 Model: Barra
 Case size: 39mm

22. Broome & Mercer - Fortyseven SLV-MTL-MSH

Broome & Mercer - Forty-seven watch

I always find it ironic when a minimalistic watch model decides on a decidedly convoluted model name. That said, this silver plated stainless steel watch has a unique double-layered black minute and hour markers which I find aesthetically appealing. Not to mention, the inclusion of the Broome & Mercer logo at the 12 o’clock position rounds this watch design off nicely.

Key Features

316L stainless steel case
Ronda 515 Swiss quartz movement
Silver plated stainless steel metal mesh
Crystal sapphire crystal

Specifications

 Brand: Broome & Mercer
 Model: Fortyseven SLV-MTL-MSH
 Case size: 38mm

23. Maven - Shadow Black - 40mm

Maven - Shadow Black - 40mm watch

Another fine example of a nearly all black timepiece in the form of the Shadow Black from Maven. This two-handed watch has 3 layers of markers to denote the hour and minutes as well as evenly spaced ones to complete the look. Additionally, I like the fact that despite the three layers of markers, it somehow has managed to look uncrowded, even with a fairly sizeable brand mark.

Swiss Ronda 762 movement
Sapphire crystal case
20mm Italian leather strap

 Brand: Maven
 Model: Shadow Black

25. Komono - Winston Subs Silver Blue

Komono Winston Subs Silver Blue Minimalist Watch

2009 must have been the sort of year where the watch gods aligned the stars just right to allow enterprising people all over the world to start watch brands. Such is the case with Belgium fashion company Komono who designed this dazzling expression of minimalist. Not only is this watch unique in the sense that it’s primary dial is a pearlescent blue, but also contains three layers of markers, some of which are in gorgeously small font.

Key Features

316L stainless steel case
Japanese quartz movement

 Brand: Komono

26. Nomos Glashutte - Tangente Neomatik 41 Update

Nomos Glashutte - Tangente Neomatik 41 watch

Overly long model names aside, watch collectors all over the world, know that the Nomos Glashutte name stands for a level of craftsmanship befitting their price point. Without a doubt, Nomos Glashutte watches are a luxury item, but their iconic level of beauty demands the attention of any serious horology enthusiast and those looking for a minimalist watch that stands out above the crowd in a classy way. This is probably why we’ve included five different models from Nomos Glashutte on our list. What makes the Tangente Neomatik 41 unique is its date ruing, placed around the edge of the dial, using two red dots that show the current date. Combined with a secondary dial that does nothing to overly complicate this watch, the thin bezel and polished finish of the case which encapsulate the oxidized black hands is that rare combination of elements that will take your breath away when you see this watch in person. At around $3,600 USD, it’s best reserved for those that don’t mind paying for the privilege of saying that you wear a Nomos Glashutte.

Key Features

27. Fossil - Rutherford Carbon Series Black Stainless Steel

Fossil - Rutherford Carbon Series Black Stainless Steel watch

Arriving back in the land of modestly priced minimalist watches, we find ourselves looking at another watch from Fossil that there isn’t much to say about except that its elegance and modest sizing at 38mm is well suited to be a quality unisex watch.

Key Features

Stainless Steel case
Quartz movement
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Fossil
Model: Rutherford Carbon Series Black Stainless Steel
 Case size: 38mm

28. Skagen - Hybrid Smartwatch - Jorn Tan Leather

Skagen Hybrid Smartwatch

One of the few smartwatches appearing on this list is the Skagen Hybrid Smartwatch. It deserves to be on this list, not just because of its varied functionality including its ability to sync with your Android or iPhone for the purpose of notifications, activity tracking, sleep tracking, music control and more. What I like most about this watch is its low price tag, simple looks (though if I was the watch’s designer, I would have gone a step further and eliminated the “HYBRID” moniker below the logo on its dial), and how it achieves all this in only a 10mm thick case. If you’re looking for a very nicely designed smartwatch, which can be paired with most outfits, and doesn’t come attached with an exorbitant price tag, this Skagen watch is probably what you’re looking for.

Key Features

Various smartwatch functionality
Stainless steel case
3 ATM water resistance
Interchangeable strap

Specifications

 Brand: Skagen
 Model: Hybrid Smartwatch
 Case size: 41mm

29. MVMT - Opar

MVMT - Opar watch

It’s safe to say that the MVMT Opar watch was designed to go well with formal wear and simply begs to be taken out for a night of fun, drinks, and maybe dancing. If you’re looking at this watch thinking that the bezel seems impossibly thin, you’re right. That and it’s thoughtfully blended colors, not just on the dial, but throughout the entire watch, make it a real standout on this list of minimalist watches for men. The most common thread that runs through the reviews of this watch is that photos simply don’t do it justice.

Key Features

Polished silver stainless steel case
Miyota quartz movement
Domed hardened mineral crystal glass
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: MVMT
 Model: Opar
 Case size: 41mm

30. Miansai - M12 Swiss Black

Miansai is more of a fashion brand than a watch brand, but that doesn’t stop them from producing some finely crafted pieces of timekeeping in the art and style of minimalistic principles. Though not exactly modestly priced, the M12 Swiss Black’s two outstanding design features might push you over the edge to try this watch. First, we have the markers on the black dial that may attract the eye of motorsport enthusiasts as the overall look is more evocative of a speedometer or tachometer than traditional markings on most minimalist watches. Second, the unique crown, positioning at 4 o’clock, adds a detail I’ve never seen before on a dial, a flat piece extruded and then drilled to include a hole. Certainly, an interesting design detail that sets this Miansai watch from many others.

Key Features

Stainless steel case
Curved mineral glass
Swiss Ronda 582 movement
3 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Miansai
 Model: M12 Swiss Black Asphalt
 Case size: 39mm

31. Instrmnt - 01-A

Instrmnt - 01 watch

Manufactured in Germany, it’s hard to find something wrong with the Instrmnt 01-A. First, the 20th-century industrial design inspiration of this watch is immediately obvious in its use of almost overly stark elements, including typographical choices often seen in watches made in the eighties. Everything about this watch screams quality. Notice how beautiful the curves of the lug at top and bottom meet the rest of the ultra-thin bezel of the case.

Key Features

Swiss Rond 585 3H movement
PVD coated 316L stainless steel casing
Sapphire crystal glass
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Instrmnt
 Model: 01-A
 Case size: 40mm

32. Sekford - Type 1A

The Sekford Type 1A watch is what happens when the British reach back into history and become inspired by the tradition of fine British pocket watches and mid-century dress accessories. What this means is a huge heaping of white space used on the dial with only the most essential of markings and features including the hairline minute markers. Each Sekford watch is engraved with a unique number on the back and comes with a 2-year warranty. While not the most affordable watch on this list, there’s no question that adding this timepiece to your assemblage of timekeepers should immediately catapult you into the rarefied air of being, or at least posing as, a fine British chap.

Key Features

Stainless steel case polished and brushed
SEK200 Swiss quartz movement
3 ATM water resistance
Dome shaped anti-reflective KI mineral crystal glass

Specifications

 Brand: Sekford
 Model: Type 1-A

33. Braun BN0171

Braun BN0171 Watch

For the uninitiated into the realm of minimalist watches or industrial design, you’d be readily forgiven for associating the Braun brand with electric razors or hair care appliances, but much of Braun’s fame comes from its line of clocks and watches. Helmed by one of the most famous industrial designers of all time, Dieter Rams, Braun has a storied history of making objects with their “less is more” design philosophy. Much of that is evident in this amazing Braun watch, the Unisex B0171. This fully ceramic (both case & strap) watch is everything that is right with minimalist watch design. I don’t even have to say too much more about it. Just look at that iconic yellow second hand.

Key Features

Ceramic case and strap
Quartz movement
3 ATM water resistance
Push button clasp

Specifications

 Brand: Braun
 Model: Unisex BN0171

Just like its lighter-colored and mesh strap endowed cousin, the Pebble 04 is the stuff of minimalists wet dreams. Designed by acclaimed Danish design trio, KiBiSi, the Pebble 04 is an absolutely perfect synthesis of form, color, and simplicity. The Pebble line of watches is just one of those watch lines that you could wind up owning in tons of different finish combinations simply by virtue of falling in love with its basic form.

Vestal Roosevelt Leather Watch

There is any number of elements of this watch, that when just two of them combined don’t really work well together, and yet when amalgamated all-together in their final form, somehow work together to make a signature Vestal timepiece. The Roosevelt Leather has a very nice clean and slim case with fantastically understated minute markers in a glossy black that contrasts just enough with the matte black of the dial.

Key Features

316L stainless steel case
Hardened mineral crystal glass
10 ATM water resistance
Japanese quartz movement

Specifications

 Brand: Vestal
 Model: Roosevelt Leather
 Case size: 42mm

37. Movado - Museum Classic

Movado Museum Classic Watch

Movado’s Museum Classic should be thought of more like a fine piece of jewelry. Oh sure, it also accomplishes its primary function of timekeeping, but let’s face it that’s not why you’ll be wearing this watch. It’s clean lines, highly contrasted dial and stunning strap are designed to impress all those who happen to catch a glimpse of your wrist. Oh, and it includes a freaking diamond embedded in its dial. Did we mention it was more like a piece of fine jewelry?

38. Void - TheV03D - Dezeen

Void - The V03D - Dezeen watch

It’s quite common to see design partnerships at the high-end luxury end of the watch world, but not that often you see a collaboration between two parties that results in a formidable minimalist watch design. That happens to be the case here with the V03D – Dezeen watch which is a collaboration between Void and design and architecture blog Dezeen. Perhaps part of the incentive of owning this watch is that it’s a limited edition design with only 200 being produced. Exclusivity aside, The V03D sports a very handsome dial with minimal markers and some great looking hands.

Key Features

Japanese quartz Miyota movement
Premium calf leather strap
5 ATM water resistance

39. Greyhours - Vision Classic Silver

Grey Hours - Vision Classic Silver Minimalist Watch

Available with five different, yet nicely matched straps, the Silver watch from Greyhours is a stunner. It’s sleek lines and brushed and polished surfaces blend well with the pure white dial which exhibits visual restraint. What landed this watch on our list is that it accomplishes something unique with its hour markers by simply having them inset slightly below the dial’s surface and allowing the shadows of those insets create the contrast needed for the markers to be visible at a glance.

Key Features

316L brushed stainless steel case
Ion plating hardened glass coating
5 ATM water resistance
Sapphire crystal with anti-glare treatment

40. LEHFT - All Black Edition

LEHFT - All Black Edition minimalist watch

As you may have deduced from my choice of watches on this list, I’m kind of a sucker for all-black watches. The blacker the better. That’s why the LEHFT All Black edition carves out a special place in my longing eyes. Perhaps calling it all black is somewhat disingenuous as there are some obvious hints of grey and graphite in the dial, but then all is forgiven when my gaze turns to the black polished markers and all black hands and even logo. Finely crafted and fashionable in spades, if I’d have any money left after all the other spartan watches I’ve drooled over on this list, I’d definitely pick this one up, and then wonder what kind of all-black Keanu Reeves inspired outfit I’d have to wear to justify this beauty.

Key Features

Swiss-made Ronda 763 movement
Lugless 316L stainless steel case
5 ATM water resistance
Scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass

 Brand: LEHFT
 Model: All Black Edition

41. Nomos Glashutte - Ahoi Neomatik Siren Red

Look, I get it, a red dialed watch is not for everyone. In-fact, when watch designers introduce a watch with a dial other than white, black or some form of blue, sooner rather than later, that watch has a little “clearance” tag hanging off it. On the off-chance that you like some color in your minimalist watch, the Ahoi Neomatik Siren Red might be the fix you’re looking for. Though at 3,240 EUR (that’s Euros for all you Americans), you might have to sell a used car or something to afford this beautiful flash red.

Key Features

DUW 3001 automatic movement

42. Fossil - Minimalist Two-Hand Indigo Blue

Fossil Minimalist Two-Hand Indigo Blue Watch

Available in three different colors, Fossil made a commitment with this watch by making almost the entire watch a pleasing indigo blue color, with the exception of the hands which are a mid-grey color added for contrast. Additionally what makes this watch an attractive option is that at a very affordable price point you could easily pick it up in all three color variants to match various outfits. And finally, there’s the case size. At 44mm, it’s well suited for any fans of oversized minimalist watches.

43. Skagen - Hagen Brown Leather Watch

Skagen - Hagen Brown Leather Watcbh

This refined Skagen watch has a few outstanding features that caught our eye. The first is the almost comically oversized hour markers, which at first glance are seemingly too large. But upon further inspection, it’s actually this minimalist watch unique in the land of companies trying to make a standout timepiece. Secondly is Skagen’s ability to create a very pleasing beveled back plate whose curves are so beautiful, it’s almost a crime to hide them. And to add a bit more distinctiveness, Skagen added a small splash of color to the sub-second time which keeps track of the seconds.

44. MVMT - Gotham

MVMT - Gotham minimalist watch

With this kind of name, perhaps even Bruce Wayne could be spotted this minimalist watch from MVMT. Gorgeous silver hands and markers are a hallmark feature of this finely crafted MVMT watch as well as a silver crown that adds a bit of panache. And at only $119 USD, you’d be excused into thinking that it’s not a finely crafted piece, but that’s exactly where MVMT always surprises you. Well made watches, for reasonable prices. That’s probably why they’ve taken the watch industry by storm and were recently acquired by industry giant Movado for over $100 million dollars.

45. Brathwait - The Classic Slim Wrist Watch

Brathwait - The Classic Slim Wrist Watch

Following in the footsteps of companies like MVMT are other newcomers to the timekeeping industry such as Brathwait, who promise radical transparency when it comes to pricing their watches. What does radically transparent pricing mean? Put simply, Brathwait actually list out the cost of each of their components for each watch they produce. With all that said, the Brathwait Classic Slim Wrist Watch is both attractively priced and exhibits an almost Mad Men-esque quality of what you’d find an advertising executive wearing on their wrist in the 1960’s. Its beautiful integration of silver throughout the entirety of the watch is exceedingly enticing, and it’s all capped off with a ruby red seconds hand that caps off the near-perfect design.

Key Features

316L stainless steel case
40mm or 36mm case size options
10 ATM water resistance
Stainless steel mesh strap

 Brand: Brathwait

46. Ted Baker - Britsw

Ted Baker watch

Sure, let’s give this watch a model name that’s essentially unpronounceable. Sometimes I question the choices made with their model naming, but there’s certainly nothing to question about the inviting look of this minimalist watch from Ted Baker (London) – oh yeah, don’t forget that London part. I suppose when you’re a fashion brand, there’s some level of both convention and allure to reminding everyone that you’re a British brand in London, but me personally, I find it kind of silly. Ok, let’s get back to the watch. This stylish all stainless steel watch features a rather wide, and what Ted Baker describes as “gentlemanly link” strap with two sporty sub-dials. My favorite small detail of this watch is the use of the almost aqua like-blue in the sub-dials and seconds hand. And here’s one more bizarre detail, obviously a hold-over from someone writing copy for the website’s other available items such as clothing, but in the care instructions for the watch is included the following tidbit: “Do not wash, iron, or dry clean”. Definitely, do not iron your watches people!

Described as a classic time-capsule, the Classic Durham is a fine choice for any connoisseur of sparse watches designed to fit any casual or formal outfit. Outfitted with a thin-bezeled stainless steel case, and brown leather strap, the Classic Durham is gorgeous medium-priced watch we highly recommend.

49. Bulbul - ORE 06

Bulbul Ore 06 watch

No amount of cajoling by my colleagues in the office would convince me that I’ve included too many Bulbul watches on this list. I mean, just look at this damn thing. If there was ever a watch that distilled the absolute essence of what a minimalist watch should look like, the Bulbul ORE 06 is probably that watch. Made with a fine matte stainless steel finish, the clean, nay, nearly antiseptic dial combined with its perfectly circular shape is what makes this watch special.

50. Movado - Connect

Movado Connect smart watch

Another watch lands on our list simply by virtue of the fact that it’s a stunning look that combines a breadth of features and functionality by way of it’s Google Wear OS, and a remarkable, trademark Movado minimalist case. A gold ion-plated look with a round digital dial and gold ion-plated stainless steel buckle round-out the list of inspired design motifs, but don’t be surprised when you see this thing in person. Sporting a 46.5mm case size, it’s a giant watch fan’s dream.

51. Void - The VO1 MKII BL/MB

Void - The VO1 MKII BL/MB

Nevermind the slightly higher price tag. This is a unique approach to a modern minimalist watch. It’s an iteration on a previous version of this timepiece and features a stainless steel case that is instantly recognizable to anyone who has ever been on the Internet as it became somewhat of a sensation back in 2008. Available in a variety of different finishes and colors, the V01 MKII is somewhat reminiscent of one of my favorite watches of all-time, the Nixon Rotolog.

Key Features

Digital LCD display with EL backlight
Black stainless steel milanese strap
Sapphire crystal glass
5 ATM water resistance

Specifications

 Brand: Void
 Model: The VO1 MKII

52. Greyhours - Electron

Greyhours - Electron watch

The Electron watch from Greyhours is just one of those watches that cries out the immortal battle-cry of the modern-day consumer as spoken by Futurama’s lost-in-time hero, Fry: “Shut up and take my money”. Whatever exact shade of blue that Greyhours managed to find for the dial and case of this minimalist watch makes me want to lock away the RGB value of and never share it with anyone else. Put simply, it’s perfect. Finally, even the canary yellow they chose to contrast the blue puts a fantastic finishing touch on an already great watch.

Key Features

316L stainless steel polished case
French calf leather strap
Sapphire glass with anti-reflection coating
5 ATM water resistance

 Brand: Greyhours
 Model: Electron

53. Nomos Glashutte - Lambda Deep Blue

Nomos Glashutte - Lambda Deep Blue

We’re definitely getting into astronomical pricing territory here with the Lambda Deep Blue watch, but we still can’t shake the feeling that Nomos Glashutte makes some of the finest minimalist watches in the world. With a delivery time of 6 months, you’d think that you’d be taking delivery of some sort of sports car, but perhaps that’s just the nature of the game with finely crafted timepieces in this pricing territory. The case alone is made using solid 18k white gold, which works extremely well in contrasting the deep blue of the dial. You might be wondering what the 0 to 84 indicator in the top half of the dial is. That’s 84 hours that countdown to the amount of time left until the watch has to be rewound.

Key Features

White gold 18kt case
Tripartite sapphire crystal glass back
Domed sapphire crystal front glass with anti-reflective coating
3 ATM water resistance

54. Komono - Winston Woven Chestnut

Komono - Winston Woven Chestnut watch

At less than a hundred bucks, the Winston Woven Chestnut checked a lot of checkmarks to wind up on this list of scantily clad watches. There’s the price yes, but as I’ve stated before, I’m a sucker for an all-black dial, and a watch that I feel would be ideal for most casual occasions. A beautiful woven chestnut colored leather strap makes it standout from many of its brethren featured here.

55. Matte Black - Super Modern White

Matte Black - Super Modern White watch

At an absurdly low price, I wouldn’t expect some miracle of ultimate quality, but I couldn’t resist mentioning this watch here simply because of its unique design. The Super Modern White is the antithesis to the modern smartwatch and smartphone era of being bombarded with digital information overload.

Key Features

Stainless steel case
Quartz movement

56. Picto - 40mm Red/Polished Steel

Picto - 40mm Red/Polished Steel

It’s red. It’s a really nice red. If you’re a fan of watches that take minimalism to its absurd end and have a penchant for anything with a shade of red, this is the watch for you. I suppose they could have taken the hand as well and simply had two traveling spheres to show the hour and minute, but this approach works just as well.

Key Features

Polished steel case
Silicone strap
Miyota 2025 movement

 Brand: Picto
 Model: 40mm Red/Polished Steel

57. Optik Instruments - 005_Navigator 24

Optik Instruments - 005_Navigator 24 watch

As was the case with the previous Optik Instruments watch we featured here, I can’t be entirely sure of the availability of this watch by the time you read this. Cautionary tales of failed hardware Kickster’s aside, the 005_Navigator promises to be something truly unique. Inspired by vintage night-view aircraft gauges this minimalist watch has a gorgeous yellow, white, grey and midnight blue color palette.

Domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating

58. VERK - ETT01 Gunmetal Mesh

VERK - ETT01 Gunmetal Mesh minimalist watch

Taking the prize for the most literal product name on our fancy list of minimalist watches is this Verk beauty. An abundance in on-the-nose naming notwithstanding, this German-made watch has plenty to like, including a clean aesthetic and two sizing options in 36mm and 40mm. The clasp on the metal mesh is nicely integrated and doesn’t do too much to shout for attention, which is kinda the point of minimalism in some sense, isn’t it? Like some of its better-looking compatriots we’re now seeing being produced by the industry, this Verk watch has a thoughtful combination of polished and brushed metal surfaces.

Key Features

Swiss Ronda 762 movement
Sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating
3 ATM water resistance
316L stainless steel case

59. Braun - Gents BN0211 Classic Slim Watch with Mesh Bracelet

Gents BN0211 Classic Slim Watch with Mesh Bracelet

As the final piece from Braun in our exhaustive search for the most beautiful minimalist watches, you can adorn your wrist with, the simply seductive Braun BN0211 is a fantastic combination of materials, design choices, and slim case. Think of it as a modern take on the kind of watch your Dad would wear. This is the kind of watch that wins design awards, and it’s definitely done that, but don’t let its focus on design sensibilities lull you into thinking it accomplishes its mission at the sacrifice of comfort. It’s got plenty of that in spades as well.

Key Features

3 hand Quartz movement
Matte stainless steel case
3 ATM water resistance
Scratch resistant mineral glass

60. Triwa - Ivory Svalan Gold

Triwa - Ivory Svalan Gold watch

Ok, so let’s get the first thing out of the way, we know we’ve been negligent in not including any women’s watches specifically on this list. In our defense, we’ve dedicated an entire article showcasing 35 beautifully minimalist watches for women, and many of the watches on this present list are unisex. That said, and perhaps it’s the Eastern European in me, but I often find myself staring in longing at gold watches. Of course, it would appear that in North American culture, gold watches are rarely seen on male wrists, and thus for men, under the age of 40 who are not sporting the requisite obscene level of chest hair meaning they can only be an aging Italian man sipping cappuccino, gold watches are somewhat of a faux pas. But gender stereotypes be damned. I love the look of this fantastic watch from Triwa. It’s slim but bold. Swedish, but stylish.

Key Features

Stainless steel case
Citizen Miyota 1L45 movement
5 ATM water resistance
Mesh strap

 Brand: Triwa
 Model: Ivory Svalan Gold
 Case size: 34mm

61. MVMT- Myst

MVMT- Myst minimalist watch

No, MVMT did not pay me any money to include so many of their watches on this list. It’s simply that their breadth of simplistic designs warrants the inclusion of a sizeable number of their watches. The MVMT Myst is another fine example of why this company’s products has simply skyrocketed with those still predisposed to wearing wrist watches. An uncluttered and bold design in an attractively priced package. That’s enough to satisfy most watch wearers.

Key Features

Stainless steel case in matte gunmetal
Caramel genuine leather strap
5 ATM water resistance
Battery powered 2 hand / small second Miyota quartz movement

Specifications

 Brand: MVMT
 Model: Myst
 Case size: 41mm

62. Vestal - ZR-3 Minimalist

Look away immediately if you’re not into giant oversized watches. This is Vestal’s largest watch and accordingly the largest on this list as well. A 52mm case is not something you often see attached to someone’s wrist, but Vestal threw caution to the wind with this beautiful black dialed timepiece.

Key Features

316L stainless steel case
Hardened mineral crystal
10 ATM water resistance
6-hand premium chronograph

Specifications

 Brand: Vestal
 Model: ZR-3 Minimalist
 Case size: 52mm

63. Fossil - Essentialist

Fossil - Essentialist watch

The Fossil Essentialist is another example of an economical minimalist watch that has enough neutral tones to allow you to pair it with almost any outfit. A pared back dial, stamped logo and hidden lugs all contribute to the overall starkness of this watch. But it’s really hard to appreciate this watch until you’ve glimpsed its profile, which to their credit, Fossil didn’t neglect. Then, of-course, is the choice of blue in the seconds hand which puts an exclamation point on why this watch has earned its rightful place amongst its compatriots here.

Key Features

Quartz movement
Stainless steel mesh strap
5 ATM water resistance

 Brand: Fossil
 Model: Essentialist

64. Eone - Bradley Mesh Back

Eone - Bradley Mesh Back Watch

Radically creative approaches to watch design are often considered a fool’s errand. After all, a watch is no longer about telling time, it’s almost entirely about the fashion of the thing. But when we first caught sight of the black-on-black Bradley watch, it was infatuation at first sight. The unique markers are raised and polished and when combined with the magnetized ball bearings that travel around the watch face in two separate, recessed tracks, you can tell the exact time, simply by just touching the watch without ever looking at it. Of-course that would be doing it a huge injustice as this is an all-together stunningly beautiful watch. Not everyone is a fan of the all-black aesthetic, but luckily the Bradley is available in a wide assortment of colors, straps, and finishes. One other thing to note is that unlike almost every other minimalist watch we’ve dedicated virtual ink to here, the Bradley is different in that it contains no glass, and whose case is made out of titanium. What that does for its scratch resistance as compared to 316L grade stainless steel watches is hard to say, as the exact grade of titanium being used in the Bradley is not readily knowable.

Key Features

Ronda quartz movement
2 year warranty
No glass
Relatively thick at 11.5mm

Specifications

 Brand: Eone
 Model: Bradley Mesh Black
 Case size: 40mm

65. MVMT G2

MVMT - G2 watch

Another decidedly feminine watch, the MVMT G2 is a well-designed concave faced piece that at 32mm is a delicate and elegant watch. It’s rose-colored stainless steel case is powered by a 2 hand Miyota quartz movement and features and continues its svelte specifications with a relatively thin case of only 7.4mm. Overall what I like about this watch is that despite its feminine wiles, it’s use of rose gold, beige and brownish tones makes for a very subtle and pleasing color palette.

Key Features

Miyota 2-hand quartz movement
Hardened mineral crystal glass
5 ATM water resistance
Taupe stainless steel mesh strap

66. Nomos Glashutte - Metro 38

Nomos Glashutte - Metro 38 watch

Designed by famous watch designers Mark Braun, the Metro 38 is one of the more pure watches in the Nomos Glashutte collection. Thin, delicate features including the minute markers and the hands on a white silver-plated dial use the concept of white space to a terrifyingly effective degree. Also a winner of multiple design awards, the Metro 38 has forgone a power reserve indicator (rarely included on hand-wound watches) and also lacks a date window. All that to say that it’s efforts for simplicity and minimalism have not gone unnoticed. Like most Nomos Glashutte watches, you’d be hard pressed to make a bad choice with this collector’s watch. Just don’t forget that it comes with a rather premium price, and that’s putting it euphemistically.

Key Features

Stainless steel case with stainless steel back
Domed sapphire crystal glass
3 ATM water resistance
Leather strap

Specifications

 Brand: Nomos Glashutte
 Model: Metro 38
 Case size: 38.5mm

67. Komono - Winston Royale Silver

Komono - Winston Royale Silver watch

At only $99 USD, the Komono Winston Royale Silver is both curiously priced and curiously named. Reading the description of this watch on the Komono website would lead you to believe that Komono thinks that this is a watch fight for a King. We wouldn’t go that far, but it’s certainly not too shabby either, especially if you’re a fan of all silver watches. Evocative of a watch you might see your uncle wear in the 70’s or 80’s the Winston Royale, with its brushed silver metal case and matching metal mesh strap is a nice casual watch that makes quick work of other overly complicated timepieces. Bonus points for being available in nine different color permutations.

68. Void - The V02MKII-BL/MB

Void - The V02MKII-BL/MB minimalist watch

Landing as the fourth Void watch on this list, and a cousin or “analog extension” as Void would call it of the Void V01 MKII, the V02 uses three compass needle hands over a half-sized circular plane. So how do you tell time with half a circle and analog hands? Easy, you compress the first and the second half of the hours, minutes and seconds into a semicircle. Pretty clever. A very popular watch in the Void lineup, this minimalism fan’s watch is available in several color combinations and finishes.

Key Features

Japanese quartz Miyota movement
Stainless steel milanese mesh strap

69. LEHFT - Black/Navy

LEHFT - Black/Navy minimalist watch

With a beautifully designed 42mm brushed black stainless steel PVD casing, the Black/Navy is designed to create a lasting impression, and it has certainly accomplished that goal with me. Although its size would indicate that this is  a men’s watch, this minimalist timekeeper is actually considered a unisex timepiece constructed with some very fine materials.

70. Greyhours - Vision Grey Sand

Greyhours - Vision Grey Sand watch

In hindsight, it would have not only been a huge omission to leave this watch off this list, it probably constitutes some sort of horological injustice to leave this watch at the bottom of the list, but perhaps as the final one here it will leave a lasting impression and implore you to start investing in some of these minimalist beauties. There’s not much I can say that high-res macro photos won’t clearly illustrate over at the Greyhours website. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
